Last year’s Mississippi Coastal Cleanup, sponsored by the Mississippi Marine Debris Task Force as part of the International Coastal Cleanup, was on Saturday September 16, 2006 and was a big success! There were many different groups and organizations participating along the Mississippi Gulf Coast and barrier islands.
The IMMS staff brought out eight people to help with the cleanup efforts along Ship Island. We cleared the beach of all kinds of trash including beverage bottles, luggage, clothes, plastic, Styrofoam, even a propane tank. Some items that were found appeared to be from Hurricane Katrina, while other items were likely everyday garbage. We brought in a total of ten extra large garbage bags, which weighed about 200lbs!

Thanks to all of you that participated this year! Every little bit helps . . . and piece by piece we can all make our beaches as safe and beautiful they once were. Thanks again!
Help the dolphins today by making a donation to IMMS! All of our conservation, research, and rehabilitation efforts here at IMMS require significant resources. Your generous donations will greatly help with the endless needs that arise in tending to sick and injured marine animals and in conducting research. To help now, please click the icon on the left.
