Education

The IMMS believes that education is one of our most important functions. This is partly because that education touches upon so many people in so many different ways. For example:

  • Without education, there would be no marine biologists or ecologists to study the different animals and their environments.
  • Without education there would be no public awareness of the different problems facing our oceans and the thousands of animals and plants that live there.
  • Without education there would be no call for the government to protect our natural resources. And without the education of our children, there would be no hope for the future.
In order to fulfill the responsibility of education, the IMMS offers a variety of services and programs. These include:
  • A Marine Biology Class that strives to educate the students of our public schools about marine life and environments.
  • A Community Outreach Program that focuses upon education the general public and increasing public awareness of marine issues.
  • An Internship Program for college-level and graduate students study various areas related to marine mammals and marine biology.
