On February 3, 2007, IMMS added 12 ambitious volunteers to our family. The new members of the team gathered at the site of the future facility for an orientation and introduction to the existing staff members. The volunteers have come from near and far (from New Orleans, LA to Pensacola, FL) to assist with the numerous projects and activities that IMMS conducts. They will be put to valued use in every aspect of our day to day tasks and projects. The volunteers will have the opportunity to join the staff on the boats for the multiple wild dolphin studies currently under way, as well as the routine stranding surveys of the Mississippi Gulf Coast. They will help with data collection, data entry, and stranded dolphin responses and rescues. These dedicated animal lovers and conservationists have generously donated their time to lend a helping hand and every second of it is extremely appreciated.
Volunteering with the Institute can be a very educational and enriching experience. If you would like to become involved as a volunteer in marine mammal conservation and research, please contact Emma Jarvis, Volunteer Supervisor, at (228) 896-9182 or email her at dulfin831@aol.com to set up an interview.
